Drakkel - By Tempest

This is Drakkel, it is supposed to be a male, but I'm not sure anymore. Posterity will decide.
This drawing is for a contest ( http://midnight-dire-wolf.deviantart.com/ ), I don't really know all the small details about it but I guess I was just seeking an excuse to draw something and prove that I haven't totally lost my touch after two years and half of not drawing anything.
The contest objectives were: must have a really cool name, should have wings, 6 horns, three toes, mane, have a description and looks like it guards something
So in order: okay, check, it was difficult to place them but done, no problem encountered for that, completed, I will have to ask for details about what I need exactly to fulfill that point and that last one was almost a misfire; at first it looked more like it wanted to barge in than guard anything but I think I was able to put the drawing back on track (to some extend).
Technical details:
Done with an automatic pencil 0.3mm. I didn't know where the pic was going even toward the end; the position of the legs and hands changed several times but the pic turned out better than expected. Shading was a pain as the paper of my new sketchbook is a bit textured. It's not a problem when drawing, but it doesn't give a smooth shading; I ended up using a q-tip to uniformize it. For someone used to draw on photocopier paper, this was a bit unexpected, so I opted to not shade the whole thing and wait until I can experiment a bit more with this kind of paper.

Adding horizon line and some structural damages, the "Bloaty Head" must be popped, then reinflated to the correct PSI using a clever machine. So let's all praise Photoshop, as I chant the intonations of image correction and call upon the program to banish my mistakes to oblivion!
