http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysopelea Some of these are found in India. Could it be that the 'myth' of the Asian Dragon (snakelike) arose from people's experiences of these? |

That might work. It depends on whether the limbs got in the way, but I can see people mistaking a gliding dragon for a flying one. |
